Course Description

Intro to Fundamental Drawing

This course will focus on the fundamentals of drawing and draftsmanship. Students will learn how to do contour line drawing, form or modeled drawing, gesture drawing, measurement drawing, and perspective drawing. They will also learn how to apply these concepts to drawing still lifes and geometric objects, how to apply light and shade, how to group value masses, and how to apply different types of edges.

What are the prerequisites?

This course is for anyone of middle or high school age, from beginners to those who have some drawing skills but want to improve.

When do the classes start?

Classes start in late August 2025.

What day and time are the classes?

Classes will be on Wednesdays at 11 AM EST.

How long will each class session be?

Classes will be 60-90 minutes.

What is the class calendar for the 2025-2026 school year?

First class: August 27th.
Break: September 24th.
Thanksgiving Break: November 26th.
Christmas Break: December 24th & 31th.
Spring Break: March 18th and 25th
Final class: April 29th.

Will the classes be recorded?

Yes, each class will be recorded and available to watch later for up to one week.

What materials will I need?

For most classes, all that you will need is a drawing pencil, a sketch pad, and an eraser. The emphasis will be on developing your drawing skills rather than a variety of tools.

Am I required to attend the live classes?

No, you are not required to attend but it is highly encouraged.

Will Jason be available outside of class time?

Yes, I can be contacted outside of class via email.

How many students will be in the class?

The maximum number of students will be 18.

Will students be issued an end-of-class grade?

Yes, students will be graded based on completed assignments, quality of work, and level of improvement.

How will the online classes be conducted?

The classes will be conducted via Zoom. Each student is encouraged to have a webcam with a mic so they can share their work and ask questions.

Will homework be assigned?

In addition to the work done during class sessions, there will be assignments for the student to complete on their own.

May I register a student who is outside the listed grade range?

If the student has a serious interest in developing their drawing skills, then they are more than welcome to join no matter what grade level they are. Please contact me at jason@jasontako.com if you have any questions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Full refund before the first day of class. 50% refund after the first class. No refund after the second class.

Jason Lee Tako is a nationally renowned and award-winning professional artist who has taught professionally for over 20 years. He, along with his wife have homeschooled their five children.

Jason has mastered pencil drawing, charcoal drawing, and oil painting. His primary subject matter is historical western, landscape, and wildlife art.
